How to make Vagharela Bhat

Vagharela Bhat is a famous Gujrati Dish, can be prepared easily with left over of rice or freshly boiled rice. But if Vagharela Rice is made with left over rice of previous day it doesnot get mushy.  

Ingredients for How to Make Vagharela bhaat

  • Left Over Rice 4 cups
  • Raw Peanuts 1/4 cup
  • Oil 2 tablespoons
  • Mustard Seeds (Rai) 1/2 tablespoon 
  • Cumin Seeds (Jeera) 3/4 Tablespoon
  • Chili Powder
  • Green Chillies 2-3
  • Onion 1 Small
  • Turmeric Powder (Haldi) 1/2 Tablespoon
  • Salt as per taste
  • Sugar as per taste (Optional)
  • Asafoetida (Hing) 1 Pinch
  • Curry Leaves 10-15
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Kadai
  • Spoon
  • Lemon 1 Big
  • Curd
  • Pickles
  • Grated Coconut 1/2 tablespoon

Before Preparation of Vagharela Bhaat

  • Chop onion in small pieces.
  • Cut small slices of potato.
  • Grate coconut if grated coconut is not available
  • Cut Green Chillies in to small pieces.
  • Chop coriander leaves.

Preparation of Vagharela Bhaat

  1. Keep the Kadai on the gas for heating on medium flame.
  2. Put 2 tablespoons oil to heat.
  3. Put mustard seeds in the oil. 
  4. After mustard seeds starts spluttering add cumin seeds, chili powder, green chillies, onion, peanuts, asafoetida, turmeric powder, curry leaves in the oil till all the ingredients get mix with the oil.
  5. Now add the left over of rice in the above materials and stir it well to mix with other ingredients.
  6. Cover the non stick pan for 5 minutes for steaming in low flame. After 1-2 minutes stir the ingredients so that each item will be cooked properly.
  7. After steaming up of bhat add sugar and salt as per taste. 
  8. Also add coriander leaves and again cover cup the non-stick pan for 1 minute. After 1 minute hot Vagharela Bhat is ready.

Now serve the hot and tasty Vagharela Bhaat with grated coconut and you can also squeeze lemon on it/or with curd/or with pickle.
